2004 Philip K. Dick Award Judges Announced

The five Philip K. Dick Award judges for distinguished science fiction published in paperback original format in the U.S.A. in the 2004 award year are:

Publishers who issue eligible titles during the calendar year 2004 are encouraged to provide copies to each of the judges as the books are published during the year. (All works of science fiction published originally in the US as paperbacks during the year 2004 are eligible.) The nominees will be announced in January, 2005. The Philip K. Dick Awards ceremony will be held in Seattle at Norwescon 28, in April, 2004.

The Philip K. Dick Award is sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society. The sponsoring convention in Norwescon (the Northwest Science Fiction Society). The 2002 award was given to THE MOUNT by Carol Emshwiller (published by Small Beer Press) and a special citation was awarded to THE SCAR by China Miéville (published by Del Rey Books). The 2003 awards will be announced at Norwescon 27 on April 9, 2004.

2003 Philip K. Dick Award Nominees Announced

The judges of the 2003 Philip K. Dick Award and the Philadelphia SF Society are pleased to announce six nominated works that comprise the final ballot for the award:

HYPERTHOUGHT by M. M. Buckner (Ace Books)
CLADE by Mark Budz (Bantam Spectra)
DANTE'S EQUATION by Jane Jensen (Del Rey Books)
ALTERED CARBON by Richard K. Morgan (Del Rey Books)
SPIN STATE by Chris Moriarty (Bantam Spectra)
STEEL HELIX by Ann Tonsor Zeddies (Del Rey Books)

First prize and any special citations will be announced on Friday, April 9, 2004 at Norwescon 27 at the Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel, SeaTac, Washington.

The Philip K. Dick Award is presented annually for distinguished science fiction published in paperback original form in the United States. The award is sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society and the award ceremony is sponsored by the NorthWest Science Fiction Society. Last year’s winner was THE MOUNT by Carol Emshwiller (Small Beer Press) with a special citation to THE SCAR by China Miéville (Del Rey). The 2003 judges are Stephen L. Burns, Suzy McKee Charnas, Craig Jacobsen (chair), Richard Parks, and Janine Ellen Young.
